As a means of exploring indeterminacy and opacity, I investigate the placement and displacement of information that informs my work in the form of videos, drawings, and installations. Through the use of poetic representation in a merging of the material with metaphor, my intent is to provoke the viewer into questioning what he or she can or cannot determine through or by everyday experience. The imagery employed consists of commonplace locations and conditions, each characterized by minimal, but geometric or logical formal qualities: an empty swimming pool, a kitchen, or a fire escape. When these common places and conditions meld with the lyrical nature of events that I script to occur in them, they lead the viewer to question the plausibility of the presented level of informational opacitya winter swimming pool becomes an absurd, geometrically cut hole in the ground or the fire-escape-turned-snow-escape lies in wait for an overwhelming amount of snow. Because of this inability to clearly determine the logical reasonability of these places and events, each comes to represent possibility and potentiality.
